There are seasons in life when the storms come suddenly — when the ground beneath us feels unsteady and the wind howls louder than our prayers. In those moments, the temptation is to fix our eyes on the waves. But the psalmist invites us to look somewhere else entirely.

Psalm 46 begins not with a denial of trouble, but with a declaration of truth: “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.” Notice the present tense. God is not a refuge we hope to reach one day — He is our refuge right now, in the middle of the storm.

The waves may rise, but they do not rise above His authority. The mountains may quake, but they do not shake His throne. When we cannot understand what God is doing, we can always trust who God is. He has been faithful before, and He will be faithful again.

Today, if you find yourself in a storm, take a deep breath and remember: you are not alone. The same God who calmed the wind and the waves is with you in the boat. Trust Him. He has not forgotten you — and He never will.
